I Dreamt the Sweetest Dreams is the inspiring, life story of Dilsa Doddrell who is Patron to Happy Child International’s work in Recife, North East Brazil and the wife of the Chairman of Happy Child’s Board of Directors, John Doddrell.
Dilsa is Brazilian herself and grew up in the region where Happy Child has its safe home. Her fascinating memoir traces her life in Brazil and the UK and was launched in Petts Wood Methodist Church, Kent, on 9th November.
The launch was a joyful, memorable event attended by around 100 people who gathered in the Queensway Hall to enjoy afternoon tea followed by the book signing. The proceeds of the book sales were donated to Happy Child- www.happychild.org Dilsa and John are delighted to announce that so far the book launch has raised £1,500. They are very grateful to everyone who purchased a copy of the book and donated to Happy Child.
During the event, John Doddrell spoke about the book and read some extracts from it illustrating Dilsa’s origin in a small village in Northeast Brazil. He also highlighted aspects of her remarkable journey by which, in pursuit of her dreams, she travelled from her humble beginnings to the bright lights of the big Brazilian cities, and on to London where she completed her doctorate. John was then appointed British Consul General in Brazil and, after 20 years living in the UK, they returned to Dilsa’s home country where she shared responsibilities with her husband in representing Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Dilsa describes her experience as British “Consulesa” in Brazil, including her charity work and the involvement of Prince Harry.
